Doctor's Tragedy Short Film | Rustic Tombstones
These graveyard decorations I designed as a hard surface artist for an upperclassman animation capstone during my freshman year at university. This capstone consisted of the short film, A Doctor's Tragedy, sponsored by the University of New Mexico's Film and Digital Arts department.
The subject matter consists of three variations of rustic-cut slate tombstones. In context, the plating on two of the tombstones alludes to the decease of a significant character in the film. However, only one of the tombstone variants made it into the final cut. The other two were used in several early versions of the film, which are now lost media.
In minding the artistic context, the general aesthetic of the capstone film consisted of non-photoreal, base-color, and edge-unashamed visuals. Which, in dedication to making contribution, I stepped outside of my own artistic standards to develop visually consistent assets for the project. Nevertheless, enjoy the showcase!
